Shadid: Bakhit bin Bathan Documentary Film
In the heart of the Empty Quarter, where maps and roads cease to exist, Bakhit bin Bathan Al-Marri lives to a single beat: the rhythm of the camels. With no permanent home and no concept of rest, his existence is entirely tethered to the herd—when they migrate, he migrates; when they settle, he settles. This film documents Shadid Al-Ibil (The Camel Migration): a long, relentless cycle across winter and summer in a constant search for rain, flora, and water. Yet, beyond the physical demands of this journey, we uncover the life of a man formidable in his resilience and meticulous in his duties; a man who is exceptionally harsh on himself, but deeply compassionate towards his camels. Filmed over the course of two years, the Fulan crew accompanies bin Bathan through winter, spring, and summer. At the core of this arduous expedition resides an enduring sorrow, making every migration feel like a desperate attempt to return to something he has lost.
